Miguel Martín – Fernández de la Torre (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1894 – 1980) was
an architect with a vast portfolio of work, refle cting the evolution of the city as a key example
of architectural rationalism in the Canary Islands.
The urban – development plan presented by Miguel Martín – Fernández de la Torre (1922 –
1930) offered a solution to the division of urban settlements and the disorder that had been generated until
that point. He brought together the Old Town (Vegueta – Triana) with the New Town, neighbourhoods that
emerged from the development of the ‘Puerto de la Luz’ port as the main economic driving force for the city
